Match Report – Shingle Street – 26th May

A hot sunny late afternoon tempered by a strong onshore east north east wind were the conditions in which Braintree Sea Angling Club’s latest Summer League match was fished at Shingle Street.  The strong winds proved difficult for some of the competitors who failed to catch any fish.  However Paul Drake and Barrie Senior both managed 10 fish a piece with mixed bags of pin whiting, eels and dabs falling to rag or lug baits.   In this catch and release match it was Barrie who took the honours thanks to a 51cm eel that boosted his fish points to a total of 135.  Paul had 111 points for his second place.

Match Report – Walton – 12th May

The sun shone on the eight Braintree Sea Angling club members who assembled late afternoon on the sea wall at Walton-on-the-Naze to fish the first of their Summer league matches.  The bright conditions did not inspire the fish to feed although there was a variety of species caught including a small turbot which is a very unusual fish to find inshore on the Essex coast.  The turbot along with a small bass gave Brian Grundy 31 fish points to take third place.  In second place with a bass, a dab and a sole for 37 fish points was Chris Leonard.  Barrie Senior took the top spot with an eel and 3 bass including the largest on the day a fish of 43cm.
