Five members of Braintree Sea Angling Club made the annual pilgrimage to Liverpool to fish the European Federation of Sea Anglers Wales section cod competition. Fished in the Mersey estuary over two days it attracts anglers from all over the UK. The fishing was hard with few cod around as the cold fresh water coming in to the river from the previous weeks snow fall had pushed them out to sea. Yet again the Braintree anglers proved they can compete with some of the countries top anglers with three members in the prizes. Barrie Senior had two cod on the first day and the only cod on his boat the second day which was enough to win the competition and the coveted gold pin. Colin Crocker on his first trip to the venue had two cod on the
second day to take fifth place. Bob Pennick, again with two cod, was in sixth place. Bob also had the biggest cod on the second day a fish of 51cms.
