Gerry Armstrong Memorial Open Boat Match

GAM 2010 Result

Winner of £200 was Richard Greeves with a Cod of 2lb 91/4oz

Winner of £50 was Eddie Thomson with a Whiting of  15oz

Braintree Sea Angling Club held their annual Gerry Armstrong Memorial small boat match last Sunday it having been cancelled a fortnight before due to bad weather.  The 8 boats braved the freezing conditions and launched from Felixstowe.  A cold offshore wind meant that the inshore waters were fairly calm providing good fishing conditions.  Fishing for the heaviest cod and a main prize of £200 hopes were high as there had been a number of double figure cod caught already this season.  So at the weigh in it was a surprised Richard Greeves from Stowmarket who was told he had the largest fish with a cod weighing only 2lb 9¼ oz and was presented with his prize and the Gerry Armstrong Memorial cup by Club Chairman Les Fitch.  Second heaviest was a fish of 2lb 8¼ oz caught by Wayne Rolf and Peter Costin was 3rd with a 2lb 7oz cod.  The heaviest whiting was caught by Eddie Thomson a fish of 15oz which gave him £50 prize money. Chris Leonard was second with an 11oz fish.  Thanks to all the entrants; sponsors, Baitsdirect and Veals Mail Order  for the prizes they donated; and to the BSAC members who give up their time to ensure the match took place.
